Synthesis gas (syngas) produced by the gasification or pyrolysis of carbonaceous materials can be utilized in Gas Engines to produce the electricity but commercial gas engines at small scale are not commonly available. One of main issues is the low gas quality of syngas which conventional engines are not suitable to use directly with, thus the specific design or development of gas engine is required with in-depth scientific investigations.
The project is aimed to develop the gas engine as well as to study the combustion characteristic of syngas under engine combustion conditions in order to improve the engine efficiency and reduce the engine emission. This research project is a part of the development project of small/medium scale biomass gasification for heat and power production funded by Science and Technology Postgraduate Education and Research Development Office (PERDO) via JGSEE as Center of Excellence for Energy & Environment.
